Laundry Room Re-Do

One of my most favorite things to do, is rearrange things in the house. One day my favorite lamp may be in the guest bedroom, the next day it may be in the living room. Things are always on the move around here! One of the best things about rearranging is that you are able to achieve a fresh look without spending any money.

My laundry room was fine the way it was, but I was in the mood for some redecorating and I had a can of paint that was calling my name! After I made my vintage laundry sign, I decided to start paintin'!!

I am a bit obsessed with stripes, so I'm lovin' the new space! I got the little hanging buckets from Ikea and the buckets on the shelf were left over from my wedding and are from World Market. I have no idea what the number craze is, but I like it, so I'm jumping on the bandwagon! I'm also lovin' the new sign even more!

Vintage Laundry Sign

I have been wanting to make a vintage sign for the laundry room for a while and I was so excited when the hubby came home with a wood pallet the other day. His intention was to use it for fire wood, but as soon as I laid eyes on that baby I had serious plans for it! 

This is what you'll need:

• Wooden Pallet
• Skill Saw
• Sandpaper
• Stencil/ Vinyl Stickers
• Hammer
• Pry Bar
• Screws/Screwdriver
• 2 Different Colors of Paint
• Hanging Hardware

{The process will go a little smoother if you have a sweet white Pomeranian to supervise.}

The first step was to take the pallet apart. I'll admit that was a little tricky, but nothing a pry bar, hammer, and a husband couldn't handle. After we had 3 pieces removed from the pallet, I sanded all of the edges. We didn't have to do any cutting on the horizontal pieces of wood because they were already the perfect length. I just simply laid them side-by-side. We still needed to secure the wood together, so Mitchell cut the 3rd board into two small pieces. We put screws in all four corners of each piece of vertical wood.

After the boards were secured together, I painted a section white. I was too excited to wait for the paint to dry before I placed the black vinyl on top, but it actually worked out for the better. When I pulled the sticker off, it pulled off some of the paint which added to the vintage appeal. I used my Cricut machine to cut out the black vinyl letters. I am sure there is a better way to make a stencil, but these are the letters that were already in my laundry room and I didn't want to waste any vinyl so I improvised.

After I applied the stickers, I painted the sign in two different shades of blue. I used the left over paint from the TV Table Renovation and I also used one of the samples of paint I had bought when I was trying to find the perfect blue for my kitchen. The colors were Martha Stewart's Sea Salt and Eddie Bauer's Shale. I painted them both on in a very sloppy/dry brush method to resemble years of paint chipping. You can't see the different blues in the picture very well.

I painted directly over the stencil. After the paint dried, I sanded the edges to distress it a little bit and then I removed the vinyl stickers. When it was all finished, it looked like this:

I was REALLY pleased with the outcome! I think it looks like vintage sign. The best part about this project, was that it didn't cost me anything! I used things that we already had in the garage!

This sign already has a very special home and I can't wait to show it to you!

That room is undergoing some changes as we speak.....
